Baptisms and Blessings

If you are interested in a baptism the first step is to contact either the parish office at office@holytrinitybramley.org.uk or the Vicar William Davie at william.davie18@btinternet.com and we can discuss details. Or you can speak to someone after the 9:30am Sunday service.

The next steps usually involve a meeting to discuss a preferred date, and information such as number of Godparents. This is usually when we also book in a session of baptism preparation. This ensures everyone involved understands what baptism means and why the Church considers it so important.

Baptism is open to anyone who lives in the parish of Bramley or who has a connection with the church, for example if you were baptised there but now live elsewhere.

Baptism is about making a commitment to become a member of the Christian church and to seek a real and active Christian faith, something which is discussed more at the baptism preparation. If however you do not feel comfortable making such a commitment, you might prefer a service of thanksgiving.

Thanksgivings are more suitable for those who might be uneasy about the Christian commitment involved in baptism, but still offer an opportunity for the Church to give thanks for the life of the child. While Godparents are not part of a Thanksgiving service, you can still ask people along to serve as supportive friends.

Except in exceptional circumstances, baptisms will form part of a regular 9:30 service on Sunday morning. We know it can be hard to come to church if this is your first time or you haven’t been for a while, but we are happy to work with you to make you feel comfortable, and to help keep any children who join you engaged with what is going on.

Baptism services are free, but donations from you and your family and friends on or before the day of the service are appreciated.
